Everyday Tank Tour: Reversible Zip Up Hoodie Style

Hey everyone - I was asked a while back to join in the Everyday Tank Pattern with Serger Pepper.  I jumped in before thinking about the fact that by the time the post would be due it would be COLD!!!!  Well dang.  Luckily Irene was all for us mixing up the pattern and giving it our own spin.... I really love when designers give us free reign since my brain has a hard time sticking to the script.

So I thought about my boys and what they like - well they love hoods, and they love things with pockets, and they love zippers.  Voila: Zip Up Hoodie Vest!

This version is actually reversible since I did a full lining.  The arm bindings I did bias style so that there is a clean finish inside and out.

To make this a zip up, I simply cut the front in two pieces rather than on the fold.... the one thing I forgot was to add seam allowance for the zipper.... oops, luckily Ash is a skinny monkey, so it is all good.  I also left the front neck line at the original height, but I think in a future one for Bex, I might raise it up a bit, as the drop scoop neck is perfect for girls, but no quite as perfect for boys.

I am so happy with how this turned out!!!  I used two Euro knits from Mabel Madison (can those mustaches and top hats be any cuter!?!?!?) for the outside, and then lined the garment with a thicker interlock for a bit more warmth and stability.

*note - the android galaxy does not quite fit in these pockets ;op  I have such a technology addict on my hands - and no, that phone is not his, it is his fathers....but he sure thinks it is his!

Dear My Kids: Trendy Unisex Peacoat

I can't believe that it has been a year since I was able to complete in Flip This Pattern.  It was an amazing experience - not just because I won (that was super fun), but because the pants I made became the inspiration for my first Boy's Pattern Design - the Aviator Pants.

Today I am back to kick off this month's Flip pattern - the Trendy Unisex Coat by Dear My Kids.

I really love Pea Coats, they are stylish, have clean lines, and will always be a classic.  I kept my version true to the pattern aside from the arm bands, while I love the detail - I just wanted to let the fabric sing.

This amazing cord is from Mabel Madison - my daughter LOVES it, the vibrant colors, the softness, what's not to love!!!  I lined the coat with warm black fleece so that this coat will work perfectly for fall and spring.  I'm dreaming up a winter version with wool, thinsulate, and flannel or Sherpa as a lining.

If you are looking for an easy sew - this pattern is perfect.  It is just 4 pattern pieces and button holes, easy peasy.  Since it is a simple design, it lends itself to amazing flips; and I can't wait to see what all the contestants have in store this week!  I'm hoping to see some pockets.....I want to add pockets to a future one I make ;o)

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween - or day after halloween.....

I had grand and glorious plans that we would do a Family Frozen theme this year with Mack as Toddler Anna, me as Traveling Anna, Hubs as Olaf, and the boys as Kristoff and Hans - it would have been sooooooooooo cute ;o)  However, I am glad that it all fell apart....

Beckett came up to me one day and said 'I don't want to be Kristoff, I want to be Superhero'.  Ummmmmmmmm, wait, what!?!?!?  He went on... "I want to be a Superhero with a Green shirt and orange boots!'  Oh dang, he has thought this through - no way I am talking him out of it.  So with one down, the other boy jumped ship as well... or maybe he jumped 'onto' a ship as he ended up being a Pirate ;op

Mack I got to keep as Anna - A. because SHE wanted to be Anna, and B. because I loved the idea of her being the toddler version of Anna from the beginning of the movie!

We had a great time, we actually went out for three different events!!!!  This might seem like a lot, but I love the kids getting to dress up and run around being kids and having fun, and if I am going to make their costumes I sure as heck want them to be worn more than once.

First outing was at the Baseball Stadium: (this is our third year going and we will probably skip it next year...just waiting in line for a long time)

The main pictures are from our Community Trick or Treat Night - which was Thursday because of a home football game this weekend for PSU.

I threw together a stuffed Olaf Thursday afternoon to bring the final touch to the outfit, <3

Third Outing was on Halloween night to the mall - it was crazy crowded and stores were running out of candy in the first 15-20 minutes, I'm thinking we will probably skip this in the future as well.

2 families - 6 toddlers, and we didn't loose a single one (thanks Nana for being an extra set of hands!!!!)

We met neighbors, got to hang out with friends, and got to watch our kids do a fairly consistent job of saying 'Thank You' at each stop.

Today we have a Halloween costume and a 'Mommy & Me' set...............  and I love both so much!!!!
